Neck lanyards are useful for keeping track of an amazing amount of personal items. Over 40? There’s probably a lanyard keeping track of your reading glasses. Are you a guest to a sporting event? A neck lanyard keeps it securely on your person and you don’t need to worry about misplacing it. Did you win tickets for backstage access at a concert? IDs are probably a prime reason for wearing a lanyard. It goes around your neck and the badge is attached and is clearly visible to anyone that you belong. Lanyards that hold personal items are also a means of ID. The digital camera identifies you as a tourist or on vacation. The glasses on the neck lanyard say that you are holding on to your vanity and youth as you forgo the bifocals because “I only need them once in a while” and if they aren’t around your neck you cant find them.
The cell phone around your neck portrays you as on-the-go, yet in touch with your friends. Ticket stubs in the badge holder, clearly visible to all observers, identifies you as someone special, with special access, where commoners don’t get to go. A gathering of people with the same colored neck lanyard and badge in plan view, are self-identified as belonging together and needing to stay in a group.
The IDing that goes on just from wearing neck lanyards is truly amazing. While providing a means for securing personal items, what they are and how you do it, provide an insight into who you are.
