There are many types of neck lanyards available.  They can be made of different materials and have different shapes. One of the most common lanyard styles is the flat style. It looks basically like a wide flat shoe string and can be made of similar material.

The flat neck lanyards come in a variety of colors and easily lend themselves to imprinting of one from or another.  There are many websites and other providers available for doing custom printing of lanyards. They even come in Disney themes, or  NFL team themes. Lanyards also come in a round style, that fit nicely under a shirt collar.  These are often times made of nylon and come in a wide variety of colors.  They look like a round cord and are usually very strong. Round and flat neck lanyards both come in a break away style to protect the wearer in case the lanyard is caught in machinery or catches something while the user is moving. In recent years there is a big push to “Go Green” and even lanyards are manufactured from recycled materials, most notably PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) plastic bottles and other plastic containers.  Typically a “Green” lanyard will contain at least 30% recycled materials and will also come as a break away lanyard in both a flat or round style.

Lanyards made of Bamboo are also uniquely earth-friendly, because bamboo is a fiber that easily breaks down in soil, preventing pollution. Bamboo is also a natural anti-microbial and is perfect for sterile environments. Some of the most durable lanyards are made from polyester or a polypropelene material.  These neck lanyards come in both flat or round styles and are usually a braided weave.  They, too, come in a break away style.
